Instructor Bio
Holding degrees from both Mercer University and Clayton State University, Julie Knapp began learning flute at age 10. Her adult flute study began with Catherine Bull, principal flutist of the Atlanta Baroque Orchestra, then for the past fifteen years with Christina Smith, principal flutist of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. She has studied in workshops with John Barcelona, Patricia George, Keith Underwood, and Tadeu Coelho. From 2008-2012, Mrs. Knapp served on the faculty of Gordon State College in Barnesville, GA as the flute instructor and director of the Wind and Strings Ensemble. After relocating to South Carolina in 2012, she served briefly as principal flute for the Fountain Inn Symphony Orchestra (2013).
Most of Mrs. Knapp's students occupy top chairs in their own bands as well as All-County, Region, and All State Bands. Additionally, many are flutists in Carolina Youth Symphony. Mrs. Knapp recently completed a Master's degree in Pastoral Counseling.
